dan i locked myself out of root! how do i figure out my password!

even if you've forgotten your password, it's not that much of a problem.

Simply restart your linux system in the 'linux single' mode and you'll get to change your root password

well,
it actually is...

you'd still need to have physical access to the system itself.
Also, you can always put in an extra bios-password screen
