It's a separate model - my hair gets in the way....

Had a "bug" while working in GUIApp yesterday.

Looks like a little nod to JPDS, if you ask me.

Oh that. Hadn't thought of it. This is both a literal and metaphorical bug... GUIApp recolored everything quite strangely in one of its routine errors.

Still working on Ep01, tad more work to do.

So, I have some news... My show almost premiered. All that was left was exporting the final edit. A problem persists in that this shit Walmart laptop runs the video editing software extremely slowly. Something as simple as moving a clip two seconds from its current position causes a delay of 1-3 minutes before the next action can be taken. It took days to put together the final edit and then at the end... exporting the video has proven to be hell. I almost had it but now the exported audio quality has suddenly become shitty about 10 minutes in. Due to all this, I am delaying the launch of Chaotician Drac until January, siting the need to purchase a new laptop. In the meantime, I will be working on assets for future episodes but doing no recording. This has been quite a learning experience and is going to rock once it actually gets started. Until then, I'll post updates occasionally.

Hmm, yeah, I had problems with laggy software in the past as well on a Windows 7 PC. What program are you running for editing? I found Sony Vegas was pretty efficient - Final Cut was the troublesome program on my part.

Using a free app called "Open Shot". I am quite sure any decent video editing app would be similarly laggy on this laptop.

2 GB. I kinda think that's how much RAM my computer had back in the middle of the JPDS days...

I would think that the bare minimum amount of RAM any more is 8 GB; probably double that, at least, for something heavy like video editing (plus a decent graphics card).

16GB of RAM for video editing seems a bit excessive, considering that there aren't many programs which will use more than 8GB at a time. I've got 8GB in my PC and have never experienced any RAM-related issues. 16 is good if you want to guarentee performance, and 32 is probably overkill. The graphics card and processor are more of what you want to invest in, especially if you're doing video editing. You'll want a really fast processor when rendering or it will take forever.

Of course 16GB of RAM help when you cut many files simultaneously, but 8GB is more than enough for a single 1080p video file for sure. 2GB should be taken with care an no other programms (like a webbrowser) should be running then. A decent graphics card (supported by the video software) shortens encoding times by many percent, sometimes 20x times faster than with just the cpu. That is nice when you have multiple videos to cut and encode on a daily basis.

For cutting one video only and not doing too much effects i also can recommend hitfilm 4 express which is not open source but still free to use. Even motion tracking a 5min video@1080p@60hz needs only 0.81GB of RAM when editing (just tried it). Also, it recovers my files even when i forgot to save so thats a good thing. Maybe you give it a try. I think its nice and is has not any advertisements in it that disrupt the GUI.
