I'm such a dumbass... I collect Sega games and I never noticed. The painting with the humming bird inside the cafe is the (slightly modified) cover art from the Sega 32X game Kolibri.
Even the crystal that gives the bird its powers is in the background!!
Cover art was probably done by Zsolt Balogh (Graphic Design & Artwork on the game) but I'm not 100% sure. Game was developed by Novotrade and released only on Sega 32X in 1995.
Sorry, I don't have a better quality and/or color image right now...

Re: Painting in cafe identified
Wow good find!
It might not be a bad idea to try to ID each piece of artwork in the game?

Re: Painting in cafe identified
The painting in the café was made by the Trespasser developer Marta Recio. She told me a few years back when I was in contact with her (she do however now have another last name which I don't remember). I remember she told me she made a painting with something that was going to or was used in another game. Guess you found it, nice

Are you sure? As Kolibri was released somewhere in 1995 and the art was still in the Trespasser beta?
Thanks Slugger

I think most of them have been identified? Though probably not for the beta...Slugger wrote:It might not be a bad idea to try to ID each piece of artwork in the game?
Made a quick comparison, weird..... Thanks again, tatu

Re: Painting in cafe identified
Looking at how similar they are. It seems like the dev probably had the original file and modified it.
Or wait! She did say it WAS going to be used. Maybe it's another version of the cover? :O

Re: Painting in cafe identified
I think what we're seeing in the Trespasser beta is the original image. Not sure who spiced it up for the Sega Kolibri game, but it definitely looks like they just wanted to give it more of a sense of danger - would be a boring game without it. Interesting though that the crystal is already in the Original image. In the excuse-for-a-story of the game, this crystal gives the bird special powers. Then again, they could have just thought of that after seeing the image.
After that, I think she still had the original lying around and intended on re-using it?

Re: Painting in cafe identified
This is a fascinating image... I am wondering if both are based on a pre-existing image. Perrrrhaps we could make a level, based on crystals?
