A tour bus tire is located fairly at the beginning of the level. Possibly a tour bus was planned to be in JR,
as their numbers in IT suggest there have been more than we've seen in-game.

Two-part lock on the shed, other than the one found in beta/retail JR, where it's a one part lock. Might
have been planned to be breakable?
Quite possibly.
The Mayan face is my absolute favorite thing from this version of JR. Guess I was right about its location:
viewtopic.php?f=120&t=8903
At some point I just assumed this stone head was the Mayan head, but now we have definite proof. It's
so great to finally be able to see this head we've only been able to see on an old screenshot :)
Yeah, I remember you guessed it from the descriptions in the documents...
No plantation house in this version of JR.
Most likely, this version is from back then when PH was a standalone level. No Cathy's Beach, either.
The Hidden Valley I think is the only area with a lot of foilage. The path leads all the way to the beach,
the location reminds me of a retail area where two 'misplaced' voiceover triggers are located:
- VH16 Hammond The southern beach looked out over trackless ocean. Down past Peru all the way to Antarctica.
- VA29 Anne This is like hiking in the woods behind my house. We used to pretend we were on a spy mission.
I didn't check the coordinates though, so I'm not entirely sure.

EDIT: The height may be off/changed, but they do place the voiceovers on the path of the Hidden Valley. Nice!
That part is probably what they describe in the documents as leading to the coast, and Cathy's Beach being further south or something (I forget the direction)
The manlifter is more detailed. Its arm has extra 'support' (not sure how else to describe it) and it has a lever.
Uh huh. Early screenshots show the lever, I believe. At some point you must have been meant to operate the manlifter first before being able to climb to the monorail...

There is also a trigger in build 96 JR with Annes VO about it.

The manlifer in retail jr got phsycis made so it would have been moveable at one point.

Okey, I'm going to give a hint to what else will await in the future. I know people will love this.

"I dropped the mug, it shattered. I let it lie there, we would be leaving soon." - Hammond

"A diary. This is really old. June, 1998." - Anne

Can you guess?

I've been making some comparisons to look at the evolution of the level. I'm calling this one "JU" since apparently that's what JR was originally called...

ImageJU terrain
ImageJR-96 terrain
ImageJR-117 terrain
  • The Hidden Valley area was rotated and moved first, then blocked.
  • After PH was removed, a copy of the start of the IJ terrain was added to the end of JU (now JR) to match.
  • The South Beach became Cathy's Beach after PH was removed, too (the latter was originally part of that level).
  • Further additions were made to the level's terrain.
Some spots compared in JU, JR-96 and JR-117:

I'm on it, just taking screenshots of the corresponding areas right now...

EDIT: here we go. First, these three pictures of another location (near the South Beach->Cathy's Beach):

More images...

No plantation house, no waterfall, and the monorail and road were moved:

First, the road, monorail and Mayan head were removed from here, and then the vehicle was rotated:

EDIT: and here, the monorail station is off by around 50m.

Very nice Machf, I love looking at these comparison images :) I've made two sets myself, one of the Mayan head / crashed jeep location
and another of the Hidden Valley voiceovers.

Mayan Head / Crashed jeep location - April '98 / Build 96 beta / Retail
Image Image Image

With the Mayan head, people will now finally be able to fully restore this scene when comparing these images. Of course there's
also a soundtrack piece that was meant for this scene.
April98 and Build96 both have the more detailed wrecked jeep with the detached doors. The retail has a less detailed version with
doors that can't be opened or detached. In the Retail version, the jeep is rotated and moved slightly next to the VH94 voiceover, as
it was right in the middle of the trigger in the Build96 version.
The Retail version adds the VH56 voiceover to go with Anne encountering hunter's remains for the first time.

Hidden Valley voiceovers - April '98 / Build 96 beta / Retail
Image Image Image

Please note that in the beta and retail images, other triggers were moved out of the way to get a clear view of the voiceover triggers.
Having made several versions of voiceover lists, for me it's great to see that these voiceovers were meant for the southern beach /
Hidden Valley. Notice the rock in the beta image, maybe a temporary marker for a developer?

Edit: fixed links for the images

Search for "water" in TresEd. There is a water objects closer to the end of the level where the waterfall was meant to be. I haven't imported the actually waterfall from JR into it, so I'm not sure how close the terrain works. But it's the same water objects as in retail and beta JR.

Here's an image of the Mayan Head from more or less the same location and angle shown in the picture:

Well, I did as you said, and it's on a very different location, and it even has a different orientation, as you can see:

How did i miss this?
This is really cool. I can't believe new stuff keeps getting dug up!

And do the Mug and Diary hints refer to a different version of Hammond's office?
Would love to see new Town stuff!

Whats really bizarre is that two days before you posted this, i posted on my blog that i had just remade the stone mayan face/head and had textured it and placed it in the island.

I wasn't going to show any pics, but here's a really tiny one..

Oh.. it appears i cant.. "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

Well, I guess I can reveal that it is an old town level I got next. In matter in fact, two of them, but minor difference (only a few days apart). But I will make both playable for you. And to answer two of your questions, yes, these versions got all the gates. And second, both Draco's and Hppav's theories about the town road system is wrong lol.

JPDS already got one too. But always nice to see people recreate thing anyway.
