Jurassic Park Raptor Pit

Here's a nifty level I just spent the whole day doing

The model was originally intended for JPO but it was broken and needed some fixing... Of course when I fixed it I gave it all new clean textures. I started working on this about 12 hours ago and only stopped a few times for breaks and the like. Fixing models you made years ago is hard... And then doing the physics for said models...

The lights do blink and I tried to match the speed up somewhat with the blinking in the movie as well.

The fence kill boxes seem a bit finicky... Sometimes they'll work, sometimes they won't. I don't know if this is Trespasser Twilight being stupid or what.

You can go inside and on top of the tower... To climb the ladder you'll have to look up and hit the jump key repeatedly... To climb back down you'll have to run at the ladder from the opposite side of the platform and tap W on the way down to keep Anne from falling too fast.

The mesh is designed so that you can use the tower on its own if you want to.

Oh, and in case you were curious about what it looked like in JPO:

Nice, I'll take a quick look at it...

EDIT: do the gates work?
And could those floodlights become moveable?

At the moment they don't, however they are separate meshes from the rest of the building so it would be possible to set up.
machf wrote:And could those floodlights become moveable?
I'd have to break them off from the railing mesh first. The problem is they have two pivot points, up and down - side to side, as opposed to one.

Well, I was originally going to build the area around the raptor pen, put in foliage, and all the various things around it - like the big stadium lights, the crane, the forklift, the raptor box, etc.

Now I may still make another version that includes all that, but I spent 12 hours just on the main building itself and I wanted to get something released before I went to bed.

Could you also make the underground emergency bunker?

Well, that's good. I guess you'd only need to make some sort of control panel for that and place it inside the tower.

Yes, I noticed that, but moving them around a single axis would be good enough...

Hmmm, I wonder what happens if you make them two separate parts and make one of them pivot around a single axis while the other pivots around two or all three... it would work if there was a way to attach the first structure to the second.

Or maybe use an .asa animation to move them...

Have you guys tested the fence kill boxes, btw? I snagged them from the Summit level and they worked the first time I put them in but I haven't had them work since. (Edit - They worked this time... after I already jumped all over those fences, testing them for weaknesses systematically)
awesome24712 wrote:Could you also make the underground emergency bunker?
Well that wouldn't be much of a problem... Almost all of the necessary textures were created when I made the Raptor Pit. The Maintenance Shed would also be a bit of a chore, but as hppavtest showed, I already have the electrical box done and working.

Would CEntityAttached work in this instance? Where the light would be attached to the base, like how Draco had connected all the meshes of the boat in East Dock... This requires some testing.

Well I just figured that because you were planning to do all of the over stuff outside you could also do what's inside.

I saw 1 download yesterday, which I assume was machf since he said that he already saw that the light meshes were attached to the railing. There was another download today. I'll bet most people are waiting until I do a full level around it. Though since this is before the park shut down I have no idea what the goal would be other than be a cool looking level. Ah well, I already did the mountain range in the background.

Well, the emergency bunker's location is right across the pond from the Visitor Center... I'll have to find a way to fit the Visitor Center's front end and pond into the level... Luckily, everything opposite of the mountain range is fair game because all we see of that direction are trees and most of the front end exterior of the Visitor Center has been done for a long time now, I'd just need to import it into the level area.

I thought the emergency bunkeer was inside (or beneath) the raptor pen's tower, when Muldoon and Ellie walk out of it they walk right past the outside of the raptor pen. . .

I had thought that when I was younger, but 10 years of frame by frame research and pulling references from the making indicate that it was closer to the Visitor Center.

Image
Here's the area behind the Raptor Pen.

Image
Here's the area behind the Emergency Bunker (When Ellie says "Run" you can see the roof of the Emergency Bunker beside her) showing the road and distinctive Visitor Center palm trees. If you look through the trees on the right you can see the pond... The filming locations for both of these areas are on opposite sides of Kauai.

Oh, and going through JPL today I found out the breakers are real:

That's... wow.

EDIT: Oh and here's the Ellie and Muldoon scene where they are walking from the Bunker past the front of the Visitor Center.

It seems all of those photos are behind-the-scenes, which might not show things how the story is meant to be, but whatever. Anyone remember anything from the book?

The full scene on the DVD you see a camera track them as they walk and he's carrying the Spaz which is only used in that scene, so the scene WAS shot and was intended to be used, but was cut for time. Plus the reunion scene shows that the Emergency Bunker is near/under the pond of the Visitor Center.

Image

Here's what the script of the movie has to say:
Jurassic Park Script 1992 wrote:102 EXT BUNKER DAY

ELLIE and MULDOON step out of the bunker.

The main compound feels different now - - it belongs more to the
jungle than to civilization. Muldoon has the big gun in his hands.

ELLIE
(on the radio)
Okay, I'm on channel two.

MULDOON
Stick to my heels.

They start down the path, moving quickly.

102A EXT PATH DAY

MULDOON and ELLIE emerge from one path and come into a slightly
more open area. The huge raptor pen stands silently, surrounded and
penetrated by jungle, the abandoned goon toward looming over it like a
haunted house.

Muldoon slows down, Ellie right next to him. They notice a hole
in the fence that surrounds the raptor pen.

The metal is twisted, as if gnawed, the hole is large enough for
an animal to slip through.

ELLIE
Oh my God. Aw, God.

MULDOON
The shutdown must have turned off all the fences.
Goddamn it! Even Nedry knew better than to mess with the
raptor fence.
So, it's near the Visitor Center and they follow a path that eventually leads to the Raptor Pen, as I am trying to point out. The Emergency Bunker is not under the Raptor Pen.

And the book has no Emergency Bunker, it has the Safari Lodge for this purpose.
