Ascent+ (Custom Revamp)

Post by Chupacabra »

For anyone who wants to play through my version of Ascent, there are two new alternate routes, some added foliage and dinosaurs, and a lot more space to explore. Here's the download link:

Looks nice! I'll download and play through later. :)

Edit: Yay small clicky images instead of big screens. :D

Awesome, I like the first and last image :) AS always needed more. I really like the way you used the Mayan stairs.

Hey uh, something's not right here... I've installed your level twice to make sure. As far as I can tell, what you uploaded is the retail AS level. :?...
The images look great, can't wait to play it :P

I reuploaded it, I'm sure it's right this time, you just take all the files out of the TresCD/Data folder right?

Well before I try this again... Where did you take them from the first time? I don't recommend modding inside your retail engine. Best to use a stand-alone, such as Trespasser CE.

The first time I took the .scn, .grf, and.wtd from the Patch folder, and the .pid and .swp from Data

*double* :P Well that was a little interesting! I enjoyed the miniature forests spread throughout lol. I hafta say though, this feels like a proto-level. It's got some great stuff but not a lot new to show - and that stego herd is just not liked by Trespasser lol. I must say.. some of those Albertos were the fastest damn things I've ever seen in Trespasser, I did really have to fear for my life  In the end analysis, good job on the things you did do, but most of the level is just too much like retail AS to be worth going ingame for.. Still, it's a nice step forward in modding, keep going! I might suggest working with a smaller playing space so you can focus detail a bit better.

The reason its so retail is because I can't import new models, my GeomAdd hates me, I'm stuck using what's already in there. I just wanted to expand it, not really add anything with wow factor. I've been working with triggers though so if I get some cool things to work I may revamp the revamp lol

That's probably because you have the large patch and not all the files are in the same place.

Try using my registry hack to fix the problem.
Nick3069 wrote:Copy/paste (not cut/paste) the files from your patch folder to C:/Tres CD/Data. (yes, overwrite)
click "Start", click on "Run", type "regedit" and then hit Enter.
A screen with a menu appears. Now, double click on "Hkey_Local_Machine", then on "Software", "DreamWorks Interactive" and then on "Trespasser".
click "Patch Dir" and set the existing directory (C:\Program Files\DreamWorks Interactive\Trespasser\Patch\) to C:\TresCD\Data (or wherever your data folder is.) This will make it easier to install new levels.
That thing should be in the registry hacks section of the site. :?

The reason i don't wanna do that now is that apparently according to Draco, the files in the patch folder are different then my level, I don't wanna overwrite my level, but thats a good idea, I was actually in the regedit and looking at some of the options in there, does anyone have a more expansive guide on all those values?

EDIT: I just looked in the regedit, and apparently there isn't even a Patch Dir choice, at least for me

I suggest switching to working in Trespasser CE ;) That will solve any worries about inconsistency. Don't forget to restore the retail version of AS to the retail data folder - and you'll need to stash it in a separate folder whenever you want to open your modded version in TresEd.

Just played through the level - Found the alternate routes a very refreshing experience, well done. Always thought that Ascent needed something more, and now it has. :)
