Indeed. Obiwahn did his homework on the bridge but I can't seem to find a proper photo. It may be something shown in a video of the Olympic however (the two were about 80% identical afterall). I'd have to go through the video clips on the net for the shots though.

That sounds like a really fun series of levels machf! Scary even. Especially the farmland idea.

Anyway, here's my Titanic progress:

Image
Here's an overview of the ship with some facts thrown in (some well known and some that most people don't know) and points out the major locations on the ship. I raised the level of the superstructure due to the fact that B deck was only going to be 3 feet tall if I left it where it was (and we can't have that can we? :P).

Image
View of the aft end of the Boat Deck and A deck. I need to detach the top faces as elements or export-import (into GMax)-export-import (into Tres) to remove all of this "TresShading" that happens when meshes aren't separated into elements.

Image
A shot of the side of the ship to give a decent idea of the height/profile change caused by extending the decks past the Aft Expansion Joint and raising the superstructure one Anne-height distance. I knew there was something off about it but couldn't place what (aside from the obvious lack of curving up at the ends which I don't want to bother with for technical reasons)...

Image
The side profile of the ship.

Image
A shot of the updated bridge of the ship. I added in platforms similar to Obiwahn's and fixed the window on the side of the navigation bridge to match images of the Titanic and Olympic (Obiwahn's bridge is incorrect here and must have been where I thought I saw the previous size of the side window).

And this is why, if you want a vehicle or vessel of any kind modeled, you hire Sam. ;)

It has a platform where I suspected there might be one.
That works, you'll need to get a hold of their references. :nerd:

I found one in Titanic: Triumph and Tragedy and there's a short video of Captain Smith on the Olympic's bridge in my Titanica IMAX VHS Tape (which I recently watched). I'm going through several of my local library's Titanic books to find the details of the ship. I have made new funnels but I don't currently have any screen shots handy to upload (my Tres Comp is upstairs while the internet comp is downstairs in my aunt's house).

Isn't there a James Cameron documentary that aired a few years back about Titanic? I believe it was called Monsters of The Abyss or Aliens of The Abyss (equal nods to two of his most famous movies) or something like that. It was a box-office smash hit I think, if it even screened in theaters. I remember it being released on DVD a few years back.

I saw that a while ago. It had Bill Paxton (Who was Brock Lovett in Titanic) going down to the Titanic in a sub.

Bill Paxton is in many, if not all James Cameron films. xD

The 100th anniversary has made me want to retry this experiment, Can't believe it was 3 years ago when I tried to do this. Unfortunately the original level was lost when the hard drive crashed on my PC, so I have to start from scratch... This is a good thing though because there were a few things wrong with the original mesh that would take just as long to fix as it would to just remake the model. Also it will allow me to do some things in lower poly than what I had done before. Here's the start of it:

Image
This is the front end of the boat deck. One of the things that I messed up on the old version was that I didn't have the bend up at the bow and the stern (I think it's called sheer, but I'm not sure). Remaking this are with that in mind is much easier than the fixing an old mesh to fit the curve. The plans I'm using are the ones made by Bruce Beveridge, found within Titanic: The Ship Magnificent and the Discovery Channel Titanic Explorer: http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/ti ... lorer.html

Image
Here's the forward First Class Entrance (nicknamed the Grand Staircase). The dome texture was made by bttws here: Dome of the Titanic Grand Staircas and the floor texture is made by me using a single pattern sample from the TRMA.

Something that happens far too often. . .

Oh, and the sight of this topic reminded me of this:
"The funny thing was how easy it was. Nobody stops you. Just get on a bus and watch the highway start moving. The whole world before you... I guess it's not a vacation if you don't know when you're coming back."

Looks nice! Hopefully this one will be ice-berg-proof.

 thanks!

Did some more work on the deck house that the Grand Staircase is in:

Image
The windows are now all textures instead of wasting valuable polygons on the frames. I gave the glass a slight frosted appearance.

Image
Here's the door on the other side and the windows there.

I'll post some explanations of what I'm modelling as I continue so you guys will learn a bit more about the ship while I do this.

This part of the front deck house is higher than the Officer's Quarters slightly and houses both the upper floor of the staircase and the gymnasium. The second funnel comes up from the back part of this section. Directly behind it is the raised roof over the First Class Lounge and Reading and Writing Room and the Compass Platform.

EDIT: I did a little more work. I thought you'd guys would like to see the clock in the Grand Staircase. It was interesting stitching this together in Photoshop:

Image
NOTE: Titanic's Grand Staircase was never photographed, all photos are of the staircase come from the Olympic, her sister ship, whose staircase is almost identical. The only known difference is that there were more columns on D Deck flanking the staircase between it and the main entrance on that level. These were found by James Cameron in September 2001.

Image
Column differences between Titanic (Left) and Olympic (Right) on D Deck.

Image
And here's the boat deck as it is now, quite a bit more details have been added since the last update.
