Trestanic

Post by hppav »

My secret project being made parallel to Pine Valley :D It's an attempt at making as much of the Titanic as possible in the Trespasser Engine. Kind of an experiment. There's a lot more work to do but after working on it for a while I believe it's up to a level where I can let you guys see it!

It uses some preexisting TresTextures as temp textures, ones which I will overwrite when I change the texture and import something with the new texture on it. The first one to go will be that ugly orange texture on the funnels  The bridge shot shows the older temporary texture for the white areas. I'm uploading a video to YouTube now, sort of a sail by (even though the ship is stationary, the movement of the ocean makes it seem like it's moving. Now if only I could get the propellers to rotate continuously rather than one time...).

EDIT: Video is now up!

So, the Titanic didn't sink after all. It just crashed on an abandoned island of Costa Rica; one that, eighty year in the future would feature dinosaurs onec again, very much alive!!! (Mystery music) Tun tun tun!!!!!!! (Mystery music). :P

Very nice model!

Interesting!
That's why you mentioned the 100 anniversary of the Titanic in that other topic.
What would be the objective on the boat? Fight raptors on the Titanic or would it only be an eye candy level?

"I can see the Statue of Liberty already! Very small of course." :P Thanks for the positive comments :D

I did some more work on the forward deck house today.

The forward deck house from Anne's perspective.

Image
The area that will contain the Grand Staircase complete with a temp-textured dome and the hole in the deck for the staircase to go down into. The floor around this area will be given a different texture later (the floor around the Grand Staircase isn't a wooden deck ya know :P).

The unfinished interior of the Gymnasium.

I don't know if you can tell but I upped the scale of the ship slightly because I got a proper reference for how big the ship is compared to the people on board. I still can't tell how the Captain in the movie can have the forward railing of the bridge come up only to his stomach when it comes up to eye level. I'll have to look for references of the other side of it, possibly there's a platform just behind it that I can't see in my current batch of references.

On another note is seems that machf has another mystery project up his sleeve :P Did we ever doubt?

Holy SHMOKES! What a great way to shake off that damn PV Curse! I am definetly downloading this. Can I make two simple requests? 1: A lone raptor in the cargo hold. 2: an iceberg. ;-D

Oh Sam that looks like some fine modeling there, quite detailed too. I do hope you're using plenty of occlusions because that looks like a hefty weight for Trespasser to handle...

I'm not using any at the moment and report no slowdowns (except upon initial loading of the level but that's only when I have either TresEd and GMax running at the same time so it's likely DirectX being overtaxed). I do plan on using occlusion objects at some point in the development (likely when the interior is being worked on in a greater extent than merely having the walls up for the forward grand staircase and gym). My main focus right now is the exterior with a secondary focus of the most recognizable locations in the ship. Anything beyond that is in the realm of "if the engine can handle it and if I don't fill up the swp and pid files".

Well, being in the middle of the sea instead of amidst a jungle full of trees and other stuff surely helps with the framerate a lot...

I have already described my planned series of levels before, it started on an offshore oil platform and one stage involved reaching a "ghost ship", remember?

It looks very nice, and big. Reminds me of the titanic for operation flashpoint, only with that if you sprint, you would go through walls and fall into the ocean.

Also machf mentioning his level, and the whole sea idea reminded me of sluggers level, http://trescom.3dactionplanet.gamespy.c ... ilit=ghost

Unfortunately machf, I don't think I read that post. Though you do mention it in the thread that enigma just linked. It sounds pretty interesting.

Edit: As much as I hate using secondary sources, this is the only viable image I found. A screen shot from a Crysis Titanic Mod WIP.

It has a platform where I suspected there might be one.
