East Dock

Post by ClassicGamer81 »

So, I'm trying, and failing miserably to install the 'East Dock' Mod.

I installed the game using 'Maximum', and dragged and dropped the folders from the zip file to the same folder that I installed the game into, but it no work! I'm sure there's a simple way to do things but leave it to me to make things more procestuous than they need to be!

How does one successfully install East Dock?

You need the ATX patch to play that guy. It's available for download somewhere on the main site. Let me know if you still need help.

The ATX package required can be found in the Download/Patches section on the main site. It is the first on the top and comes with the complete package for ATX.

Okay, so I copied all the files from the CD to a folder on my HD
(Tres CD)

Then I installed the game using maximum to a subfolder
(Tres CD/Dreamworks)

I successfully patched the game to V1.1

I copied the files from atx213 & trespassATX2 to Tres CD/Dreamworks
and successfully patched it for ATX2. There's a text that says atx 2.13
beta in green in the top corner, so I assume that means it worked.

I looked up some installation tips, and after unzipping the archive:

I copied the ED level files (scn, grf, swp, pid, and wtd) into C:\Tres CD\data

I copied introED.smk & winED.smk to C:\Tres CD\data\menu

I Copied amim_SSAnneB.asa to C:\Tres CD\data\anim

I copied ED.ini to C:\Tres CD\Dreamworks\MAPS\JMP as well as to C:\Tres CD\Dreamworks\MAPS\SPT

I copied ED.tga C:\Tres CD\Dreamworks\MAPS\LBG

And lastly, but not leastly, I copied default.ini to C:\Tres CD\Dreamworks\MAPS\RNE

And when I load the game, it still goes into the usual Hammond intro and usual menu with no option to choose the level, unless I'm blind and not seeing it, it is late lol

Did I miss a step somewhere? Does it load right into East Dock or should I see it on the menu?

Sorry for all the newbie questions...been outta the modding scene for a while, so I'm a bit rusty...

Oh yes. You will need to use the level cheat (in main menu): CTRL+SHIRT+Q+W and then release W to get the level select menu and then you can select "ED" :)

Grrr, so try as I might, I cannot get the level to run :(

No matter how many times I delete, reinstall, upgrade and patch, the option to load 'ED' isn't present when using the level select cheat :( and copying the ATXconfig file from the zip to the installed directory makes the ATX text on the game menu disappear, which I assume is not supposed to happen...I followed the instructions as you can see in my earlier post...unfortunately the readme is kinda vague...
I tried copying the files back and forth between the CD folder and the installed folder, sometimes with both folders having the files, and nothing works...today just is not my lucky day I guess! lol

Can I trouble someone for a step-by-step tutorial on how to get this bad boy running?

Did you realize that those are two different files, even though they may have the same name?

Start the ATX executable, then in the main menu press and hold SHIFT, CTRL, Q and W (in that order), then release W... East Dock should appear among all the other levels in the selection list.

BUT

when you say you patched the game to 1.1, did you use the small patch or the large patch? If you used the small patch, there shouldn't be any problems.

HOWEVER, if you used the large patch, which was meant to provide updated versions of the level files and not just the executable, and, since it couldn't place them on the CD, used a new folder created on the HDD and introduced a couple of new registry entries to get the program to load them from there instead of the CD, that would explain why you can't see the East Dock level files.

If that's the case, well, since you're using a HDD install, you can move the contents of the newly created "Patch" folder into the "data" folder (overwriting the unpatched level files that you copied there from the CD before), and edit the registry entry "Patch Dir" to point to the new location (or delete it altogether). After doing that, you should see any third-party levels on the list when using the SHIFT+CTRL+Q+W-W cheat, including East Dock.

I'm really loving the level! Well done! I haven't successfully completed it yet, but definitely will at some point I'm sure lol It really does feel professionally done, like it could be a pre-cursur to the game, especially with Hammond mentioning Nedry, and 'the incident' in his memoir...

I updated it using the 'tpass-ce_v107e' patch, which really improved the graphics and made things run more 'smoothly', however, I'm not getting the visual effect of the rainfall that I've seen in a few play through videos...but over all I'm just glad to have it working!

Turns out it was the fact that I used the full V1.1 patch, and not incompetence on my part lol but thanks to the helpful tips, it was an easy fix and my doctor said all the hair I pulled out might have a chance of growing back one day :P

The rain effect only works with ATX. Trespasser CE didn't implement it. I'm not sure if it will be done in the future...

What he said. Needs to be played in ATX for the rain. ED also contains new hints which you can get by pressing F1.
