Even if GUIApp converts them without errors it doesn't guaranteed that they will work without issues ingame. The full island works fine to convert in GUIApp but unless you optimize the "stairs" IJ puzzle it will crash ingame around that area.
That's what I meant, yes. :) GUIApp can convert most terrains without issue, but the game itself has problems drawing the terrain. You can sort of remedy this by lowering the terrain quality via triggers, but if your terrain is unstable at any level, it should definitely be fixed manually in TresEd, since the GUIApp conversion is, like you said, somewhat imperfect.

Tatu - when you say "modified terrains", are you talking about any WTD file which has been *saved* by TresEd, or specifically WTD files made by TresEd (heightmap-import)? The visible-physical terrain mismatch is in my experience primarily (if not only) caused by TresEd heightmap-import. I can't say for 100% certain that this doesn't happen with large quads in "true" Tres terrains; the quad combination fix you described sounds like a compensation for the heightmap-import mess.

I recently changed the terrain in it.wtd beta 96. After I was done the terrain had an area where Anne walking on the real terrain would sink into the apparent terrain. I tried to run the modified terrain through the guiapp triangle exporter so I could optimize the terrain. The triangle exporter would crash then guiapp would crash. I then used tresed terrain editing mode and after some experimentation selected quads then divide where the apparent terrain didn't match the real terrrain. This solved the apparent terrain not matching the real terrain. I verified this on 2 computers while playing trespasser.

TresEd modified terrains will crash GUIApp when trying to export them to .tri files. The only way to make proper .wtd files of those is to export them as .tpm, import them into 3ds Max (I think there is a Gmax script for all this too now), then export the terrain as .trr and convert it to .wtd with GUIApp.

Yes, big quads on playable terrain is not always that great afaik.

So, let's continue with some more terrains. All these are centered around (0,0).

First, here's Mount Kilimanjaro as a 2048m*2048m terrain:
Kilimanjaro.zip
(343.46 KiB) Downloaded 473 times
Next, Mount Fuji, also as a 2048m*2048m terrain (GUIapp rounded it up from a 1280m*1280m terrain, so there are some discontinuities):
MountFuji.zip
(493.09 KiB) Downloaded 431 times
Babar Island in Indonesia as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
PalauBabarIsland.zip
(313.57 KiB) Downloaded 432 times
Romang Island in Indonesia as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
PalauRomangIsland.zip
(119.03 KiB) Downloaded 450 times
Damar Island in Indonesia as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
PalauDamarIsland.zip
(117.24 KiB) Downloaded 449 times
Pohnpei (formely Ponape) Island from Micronesia as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
PohnpeiIsland.zip
(208.15 KiB) Downloaded 443 times
Grenada as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
Grenada.zip
(196.88 KiB) Downloaded 429 times
Saint Vincent as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
SaintVincent.zip
(207.56 KiB) Downloaded 445 times
Ilha do Sal (Salt Island) from Cabo Verde as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
SalIsland.zip
(131.7 KiB) Downloaded 441 times
Ilha do Fogo (Fire Island) from Cabo Verde as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
IlhaDoFogo.zip
(194.29 KiB) Downloaded 399 times
Let's see if someone uses one of these terrains to start a level...

And half a dozen more...

Moheli Island in the Comoros as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
MoheliIsland.zip
(145.11 KiB) Downloaded 436 times
La Gomera from the Canary Islands as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
IslaLaGomera.zip
(237.23 KiB) Downloaded 436 times
The area around the Roraima mesa (between Guyana, Venezuela and Brazil) as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
RoraimaMesa.zip
(381.5 KiB) Downloaded 424 times
The area around the Misti volcano (in Arequipa, Peru) as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
Misti.zip
(301.13 KiB) Downloaded 436 times
Vanua Lava Island in Vanuatu as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
VanuaLavaIsland.zip
(187.52 KiB) Downloaded 423 times
Gaua Island in Vanuatu as a 1024m*1024m terrain:
GauaIsland.zip
(167.58 KiB) Downloaded 427 times
Again, let's see if someone goes ahead and makes a level based off one of these terrains...

I'd be more interested if I actually knew anything about one of the locations you've provided

I guess it's OK if you haven't heard about the Misti volcano, but... you really have never heard of Mount Fuji or Mount Kilimanjaro?
Roraima is a mesa in the middle of the Amazon jungle, near the border of Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana, engulfed in mists and rumored since ages to be populated by... dinosaurs.

The various islands are simply islands that would make interesting terrains for a Trespasser level...

Derp forgot about those two. Amazon one sounds interesting, I still recall the tale of a dude in the early 20th century who found and described a sauropod in the Amazon before the fossils of such were discovered.

Thought this might be a good place to show off this heightmap I made from scratch...

Middle-earth
Image

I'd intended it for a Mount and Blade mod, but ultimately it didn't come to fruition. Tried to keep everything realistic with the elevation around rivers and such, but there isn't really much topographic information on Middle-earth other than some hills and mountains. It's only a rough version, and the mountains aren't quite right, but it actually looks pretty cool regardless as a terrain. Unfortunately, if you wanted to put this map into Trespasser, you'd have to cut it into chunks in order to get even a reasonably-scaled version for use...Mordor on its own would probably take up an 8192x heightmap just to look good.

Noice. Reminds me, Amazon is now going to make a LOTR prequel show for their platform...
