Moved game to PC without CD, need authorization for Tres CE
So ... My lovely Trespasser CD broke in two . And now I'm in the unfortunate situation that the PC, that Trespasser is installed on, has to be upgraded completely, which means everything will be deleted.
So, I was thinking, since the game works fine without a CD, I could copy-paste everything and move it to my laptop (which has Windows 8.1). I tried it, installed it as if I was installing the game from a CD to my hard drive.
The result: It works! Though, the video settings are fucked up, all pink, but the rest works like a charm.
The only problem now is that I can't use Trespasser CE, because I need to insert the CD for authorization. Any suggestions?
EDIT:
It appears there should be an "ereg" folder, when copying the contents on the CD ... What does that one contain?

That's odd, I never had to insert the CD for authorization when I installed CE...when does this happen?
The only thing I can think of is to either create an .iso image out of your installed retail Trespasser directory, mount it with a program like Daemon Tools, and hope it works. Or download a Trespasser .iso off the internet somewhere...but I didn't tell you to do that. I think it's fair though considering you already own the game.

It happens as soon I try to open the CE. It's a one-time authorization .
Good suggestions! I'll probably end up creating an .iso image and burn it onto a CD, since it would be nice to have.

Wait, which CE are we talking about? The ATX mod or the exe update?

Trespasser Custom Edition, the exe.

You need to copy the registry entries too...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->DreamWorks Interactive->Trespasser
Export that branch to a .reg file, then import it into the new computer's registry. You may need to edit some pathnames if the game isn't located in the same folder as on the old one...

Oh, yeah, makes sense
Although, the registry file paths aren't the same. The path on the old PC had the correct path, while my laptop uses
HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Classes -> Virtualstore -> MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> Dreamworks Interactive -> Trespasser

Never used CE with retail Trespasser, only on standalone engines, and there you don't need the cd validation. Also, if you don't have the registry, CE should add them as I understand it.

Lee's CE can import registry into ini file, so that you can create a stand-alone portable Trespasser installation.
