JPDS Glossary

Post by Draconisaurus »

This is a backup of the new glossary Mike started at the "new" JPDS forum. Since it was taken down, and will likely not come back up, I've brought it into the TresCom private board.

Notes: It's back! Entries are to be listed alphabetically and follow the established format. Feel free to add more categories to the format if you can think of good ones :)

3. Locales
Embryonics Administration Facility (EA)
Description: Consists of 9 main areas: Hatchery, Administration Building, Aquarium, Greenhouse, Maintenance Building, Research Building, JPAC Central Office, Cold Storage, Young Dino Paddocks.
Story: The center of activity for the Rogue Faction (RF). Was left abandoned after the incident.
Image

InGen Site B Station 001: Hillside Research Station (HRS)
Description: First facility constructed on Isla Sorna by InGen. It slightly resembles a University campus and features four main buildings: Security Building, Dormitory Building, Laboratory Building, Administrative Building.
Story: Facility became obsolete and was subsequently abandoned and replaced by the Embryonics Administration Facility.
Image

InGen Site B Station 002: The Communications Station
Description: Rests atop Misty Mountain and features two main buildings: Maintenance Shack, Main Building and also features a Radio Tower.
Story: Constructed early in InGen's reign over Isla Sorna. Construction took place simultaneously with the Hillside Research Station (HRS). When the incident occured, Rouge Faction (RF) members were not around to maintain it. It quickly fell into a state of disrepair after a fire brought about by lightning.
Image

InGen Site B Station 003: Runway / Hanger
Description: The third site to be built on the island, a large swath of trees were cut down (later to be used as raw building materials) to make room for the Site B Runway. It was put in place to allow air-transport of various materials and supplies that did not require ocean transport, which also proved much faster. Eventually, a helicopter pad was also made, to facilitate easy landing in the lush jungle environment, particularly useful once Isla Nublar facilities demanded frequent personnel transfer. After the evacuation, the Rogue Faction used the Site B runway for delivery of their own supplies by way of BioSyn air transports. A BioSyn helicopter was supposed to be kept on hand at all times for emergency purposes.

Visitor Lodge / Construction Site
Description: The Visitor Lodge is one of the last locations to be constructed on Site B. Incomplete at the time of the evacuation, it was thought that in about a year's time, the island would become famous, and so Hammond ordered the construction of a cliffside lodging for visiting scientists from around the world.
Image

Hydroelectric Dam
Description: The Hydroelectric Dam and Dam Control Building are located on River Dino as it the flowing water approaches the EA. The turbines produce enough energy to power the facilities in the valley below. The dam can also control water flow of the river, stopping it entirely if they so desire. Since the break in connection between the Geothermal Plant in the worker village and the Embryonics Administration, the dam is the only source of power for the EA, as the RF never got around to re-errecting the downed power pylon.

Hazardous Species Paddock (HSP)
Description: Initially constructed in the early days of InGen's development of the genetic technologies, this fence perimeter, known then as the "Sorna Fence Complex", was constructed in order to house the medium-sized animals that were cloned after they had matured enough to be too large for the caging facilities at the EA. As originally designed, it was seperated into a large herbivore paddock and several smaller carnivore paddocks, including a velociraptor pen, and controlled by the Fence Operations Control Center (FOCC) at the South-western edge. As soon as paddocks began to be completed at the Park, animals were moved out of the paddock either by helicopter or vehicle transport and brought to Isla Nubar, 80 miles away. As time passed, less and less of the paddock space was used, and most of the interior fencing was torn down to use as materials for building Jurassic Park, as well as elsewhere on Site B, leaving the perimeter as the only unbroken enclosed section remaining. After the evacuation, the RF used this paddock to begin housing their own creations once they had matured, renaming it the "Hazardous Species Paddock". As an added procaution, desided as necessary sighting the aggressive nature of the new animals, heavily-spiked crossbars were added to almost all of the perimeter fencing. Over time, segments of the fence have fallen into disrepair, and only the "East Herbivore Gate" and "South Carnivore Gate" remain operable.

4. Organizations
Biological Synthetic Technologies (BioSyn)
Story: Lead by CEO Jeff Rossiter, this company is notorious for questionable activities. Hired InGen employee Denis Nedry to commit Industrial Esponiage by stealing material from Isla Nublar and thus indirectly triggered the fall of InGen. Was contacted by the Rogue Faction (RF) and was assisting them in their continued research. *May have sabotaged RF activity to ensure BioSyn profit.*
Image

International Genetic Technologies (InGen)
Story: Founded by John Hammond (finance) and Norman Atherton (science). Company began to fail after operations on Isla Nublar were sabataged. Peter Ludlow served as a temporary replacement CEO in an attempt to save the company. After his death, Hammond was reinstated. After ordering the evacuation of facilities on Isla Sorna, some InGen employees lead by Andre Halvorson chose to remain and continue research with the assistance of BioSyn.
Image

Rogue Faction (RF)
Story: Composed of the remnants of InGen scientists on Isla Sorna, organized by Dr. Andre Halvorson. Halvorson founded the RF in an attempt to take advantage of InGen's scientific breakthroughs in a way Hammond never did. An incident caused the release of volatile mega-raptors produced by the RF which proceeded to eradicate the entire RF. The RF may have been sabotaged by BioSyn.
