Regarding Brown's Music being used everywhere ...

Post by MikeTheRaptor »

You know, it turns out a lot of the tracks on the Final Fantasy X-2 use music "from Trespasser."

And as this list of sources using Brown's music grows I begin to wonder, was it Brown's music to begin with?

Perhaps many of the samples used all over the place were taken from some library of sound that Brown, along with many others, tapped and used in their games, TV Shows, and commercials.

Brown's music is used quite a lot in other mediums; but then again, I've heard music from Stargate and Children of Dune used likewise. Usually they release that music cheap, so others can use it; and since it is not that well known by the general public, they can get away with it. Usually music of this type is substituted for music that has not yet been composed for movies and games, etc. Could you imagine if they used a well-known piece from Star Wars?

Who knows; maybe Brown ripped them off somewhere, but IIRC, the music was composed specifically for Tres. :)

I'm not saying Brown ripped anyone off. Not saying anyone ripped anyone off!

What I'm theorizing is that perhaps we, being Trespasser fans, assume the music originated with Trespasser. The way things are though, it seems that one of two things are true:

1. Brown made this music publicly available for use without copyright restrictions
2. Brown himself, like many others, got some of the sound cues and mixed them in with his own music from some publicly available source

3. The rights to that music of his are just dirt-cheap
4. Other composers got "sound cues" from Brown and mixed them in with their own
