TresEd runs at 2 FPS?

Post by jetblack »

On my computer, TresEd only runs at 2 FPS if I have all objects hidden, and barely at all if I turn the regular ones turned on...any idea why?

Are you certain that the speed setting simply isn't set to minimum? Is it Shift+6 for fast? Hell, I do it automatically like dialing an old phone number, haven't paid much mind to it in years.

I think that's the right key combination but I don't think his issue is with that. It would be helpful to know what your specs are, memory/graphics card/CPU.

TresEd chugs on my laptop, but it's like a 3.2 Vista Experience rating anyway (My desktop is a 5.0 Vista Experience rating)

I can't post much at the moment but try some these, should be helpful in getting the needed specs. :)

Device manager - right on my computer, click properties, then click the hardware tab, then device manage button.
Click the little + next to display adapters and then post whatever you got there, might be something Nvidia, or ATI maybe.
The processor should also be one of the other options to look at.

Click on the start menu, then click run. Type 'msinfo32' and it will actually show you most information Click on Edit 'select all' then again on the Edit menu, click copy and paste that here too.

According to Device Manager, my adapter is Intel 82810E Graphics Controller.

Processor x86 Family 6 Model 11 Stepping 1 GenuineIntel ~1196 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix 3.05, 12/4/2001
SMBIOS Version 2.3
Total Physical Memory 256.00 MB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

Is that what's needed?

Intel 82810 are integrated graphics chipsets, and they are quite old and have problems running lots of stuff...
There was a listing somewhere, let me see if I can find it. But it's hopeless.

It's so old it's no longer listed on Intel's site. Here's an archived copy:
http://web.archive.org/web/200605141029 ... 010467.htm
Get rid of it, if your computer has an AGP slot buy an old NVidia video card; if not, buy a new computer. You'll be glad you did afterwards.

Argh, I'd say a new computer is in order. With something that old, there's a potential for a lot else to go wrong before too long, especially if you're trying to run something like TresEd. Doesn't necessarily even have to be a big expensive one, just a relatively recent one, with decent specs..

If a new computer isn't an option, you can purchase the latest AGP nVidia GeForce card (A 7800 series) on eBay, they run exceptionally well for graphics applications.

See if you can't scrounge up atleast another 256 Mb of RAM either google for DDr1 400Mhz, though I have a feeling your machine runs off of 100mHz or 133mHz which are so god awful slow I'm afraid.

Also, a CPU would be good.

May as well buy a new computer though :P a system that old is likely to break apart any day now, infact my system is only 5-6 years old and the bios is dying pretty bad (takes a good 5 minutes to even get past the bios screen :O
