All Dino's in level active at the same time?

Post by Hilwo »

Will all dinosaurs be active at once so they will roam the island, like DW originally planned? Are you guys working on this or is this still not possible?

There's still an inherent limit set to how many dinos will be in motion at once. I bumped into a few early articles on this and it was explained as a physics oriented decision. That doesn't necessarily mean that a dino wouldn't pursue you no matter where you went, just that you won't see a half dozen dinos attacking you at once.

Yeah, I was never interested in lots of Dinosaurs attacking me at once (I love the exploring the most), but it would be cool if they would just roam the island, and that everytime you played the dino's wouldn't be in the exact same spot, waiting for the oportunity to attack you.

I've actually been lookin' into random seeding of the dinos (at least, say, for certain dinos), but I'm sure that I'll finish my experiments soon enough for the beta release. We've all got our hands full at the moment.

Wouldn't that pose a problem, if all the dinos were active? (okay, not an actual problem if you're looking at it from a realistic standpoint.): All of the carnivores would attack each other and kill, including the herbivores.

Isn't the limit at 4 active dinos at any given time?

From a player's perspective, I don't think it'd be much fun if all your potential dino encounters were that of dead ones. I'm not worried about this aspect; we'll do what we can....

Since we are talking about TC and dinos, I gotta question for you Rebel that's probably been asked 100 times before:

Are you guys implenting any new dinos, aside from the petorsaur? Compies? (There was that screen shot a while ago.)

And where can I pick up this mysterious dino editor?

T'is Remdul's department (dino creation), so I withhold direct comment. Not to mention, those types of details are generally given through TresCom updates. Lemme just say that his talents shouldn't disappoint you, or anyone else for that matter. ;)

You should be able to download the dino editor over at TresCom, under the utilities sections, I think.

Yea, I don't see it either. Might have to pm either Remdul or MP about that --

Uh, how do I do anything with it? All that I can figure out is how to move the dino around (the TribeB raptor that is included, the wizard doesn't want to work), and click on the little circles. Am I suppossed to be able to edit the figure or bones or what?

Slugger, you'll have to dig through the forums to find the few threads dealing with this tool as I doubt a tutorial will come about for a few months. Baseline, you need to use a modeling program to create a dino (skin or mesh as I call it), import the new skin, choose a bones system, then assign each bones to their respective vertices.

It's rather involved --
