Ximian

Troodon, I sure am glad I took your advice and downloaded Ximian Red-Carpet. Their updates for my disto are much more efficient and less time consuming than getting the downloads directly from Mandrake.

I had been using Gnome which I liked far better than KDe, but now I've switched again! I just can't help but to love IceWM as my desktop! No desktop icons but really, who needs them anyway? It loads and responds SO much faster than either Kde or Gnome. I'm waiting for Ximian's desktop for Mandrake 9.0 to come out so I can have a look at it. Is the Ximian desktop just a different version of Gnome or is it altogether different? Also, did you ever locate a download of WordPerfect 8.0? If so, please share with us where.. :)

Sky, have you tried the Evolution E-mail? I'ts pretty awesome!

Well, I'm back to KDE 2.2.2 myself, on Mandrake 8.2.

Ximian Desktop uses Gnome 1.4 but the desktop itself is differently configured. You can have desktop icons if you install a file manager such as GMC or Nautilus. Like you said, those icons aren't very useful.

I haven't been able to find WP 8 but I haven't tried too hard. :)

Cheers!

I have never tried Evolution. I like Sylpheed-claws. Everything i need is working... GPG, POP3s... (Ok, i don't use Sylpheed with POP3s, b/c fetchmail is doing this job ;)) I do not see a reason to change ;)
