Level 2 was unlinear

Post by vorob »

Well, in retail version, we can only walk near monorail, but in beta, first part of level can be crossed on some side path. Here is a compare shots:

Left one is beta, path is opened. And retail is on the right, blocked by some clumsily made mountain.

That's how path looks like from top:

That's what i discovered in first day :)

BTW, why it called beta 96? I see files on cd dated 1997-1998.
And why there are 3 cd? http://trescom.org/forum/viewtopic.php? ... &sk=t&sd=a We have more then one beta available?

It's technically called Build #96, meaning that this is the 96th version they created. Build 116 is the final build of the game (what we got). Build 117 is the patched version of the game.

You have discovered "the hidden valley" on your own? Good job! ...but we have known about it for a long time. Nice analysis!

Like machf said, it's not the 1996 build, it's the 96th build.

Must have been thrown off by the "noobs and machf" signature I have to make a replacement for. (I think the joke's been a bit overdone anyway xD)

EDIT: Well I changed the signature, here's hoping confusion ends with this, lol.

Dope! I'm sorry I confused the two of you. Both you're display names are 5 lower cap letters for initials plus, like hppav said, machf was in his signature.

One disc is Beta 96, the second is the Silver Master sent to reviewers, and the third is the Gold Master that was used to make the retail discs.

Umm so, is there any difference with Beta 96 and the Silver Master?
With Trespasser, you can!

Beta 96 is the version which includes Pine Valley and is the most different. The Silver and Gold masters are almost exactly the same (if not exactly the same) compared to the retail.

The only difference between the G & S Masters is the registration crap. The game files are the same. One designated for store shelves, the other given to reviewers, beta testers & some others too, I imagine.

Hmmm, not quite, 116c has a few different words in the text, while the UK version lacks all that altogether, IIRC...
