Re: Hello all from ASSEMbler - Here's the beta 96 pics and info.
Welcome to the forum ASSEMbler!
Pine Valley is a transition level between the Town and the Lab in which Anne passes through a pine forest and activates a geothermal plant. We have a bunch of screenshots and concept art of the level but not a whole lot of the level was shown by the devs prior to them scrapping the level.
Thanks for posting the file listing, it shows us that the beta uses the same filetypes as the final. We were hoping that was the case.
EDIT:
List of campaign levels and the order they are:
BE-Beach
JR-Jungle Road
IJ-Industrial Jungle
IT-InGen Town
PV-Pine Valley
LAB-Harbor and Lab
AS1-The Ascent 1
AS2-The Ascent 2
SUM-Summit

Yeah, too bad it's not AS or I'd say it was the Pens... Could still be in AS, though..
Oh jesus! New theory! If you look, the Lab filesizes are considerably smaller. And PV is just HUGE. I always wondered how they handled having a level transition bewtween PV and the harbor. If the harbor was really kept in PV, and the level transition was put between it and the real Lab, then the Lab level could actually be the Lab Complex + the Pens!!!

Holy shoot! That's some big stuff! Where did you get that?
If you have trouble running the game on your computer, have you tried running the beta levels on the demo's EXE?

The Harbor as part of PV... that would be rather interesting. Would also explain why the roads from that part of the level have "PV*" names...Draconisaurus wrote:Yeah, too bad it's not AS or I'd say it was the Pens... Could still be in AS, though..

Great to hear about that - I needed something to do during the weekend.ASSEMbler wrote:madppiper has all three versions now. Hopefully I will get to see great things happen.

Now let's see if Big Red can make an ATX version that runs with those betas and if I can find the remaining sound names which are unused in the retail version...
Time to attempt to disassemble and/or decompile again, I guess...

Whoa whoa. Already! Where is he going to upload them? Better get Mickey on the job..machf wrote:Great to hear about that - I needed something to do during the weekend.ASSEMbler wrote:madppiper has all three versions now. Hopefully I will get to see great things happen.

A girl at work asked me if she could have my shift tonight. Despite having walked through the cold to get there, I gave it to her without hesitation. Let's see if we can get something arranged before the night is up.
Maybe, but it sounds like the beta engine(s) has some disfunctionality, such as the arm control not working very well, exaggeraged "fall damage", and probably the same lousy jump as the unpatched retail EXE. They also of course have some kind of better rendering engine, and I'll bet various deactivated AI actions. I think the more desirable road will be to see what sort of combination engine can be contrived. Obviously, if that's all too in-depth for Red to handle reasonably, a Beta-ATX would be nice, if he wants to go there and do that. Now let's see if Big Red can make an ATX version that runs with those betas
Take note of Sam's comparison chart. The TPA files all have different sizes compared to the retail. They were all smaller for the beta - except ambient which was originally LARGER! This will be fun to look into, I'm sure.and if I can find the remaining sound names which are unused in the retail version...
