The Official East Dock Level Preparation Thread

East Dock will be released very shortly (within the next 24 hours, for real). Since there is no hype machine right now, I'm going to start it going with this thread. First some Q&A:

Q: I remember your initial JP Mod posts saying it would start at the East Dock, is this the first level of that mod?

A: No, sorry. In fact I have changed where the mod begins to get you into more recognizable JP locations quickly. This is a completely standalone level.

Q: What new features (if any) will East Dock contain?

A: I'm not at liberty to say.

Q: I keep hearing this is a level about Nedry, is this true?

A: More or less.

Q: I thought Draco was the one doing this, what was your involvement?

A: I did level design and modeling. Draco did practically everything else (it was even his idea).

Q: You did modeling? Will any Jurassic Park Oblivion models appear?

A: Quite a few will. What they are I am not at liberty to say.

Q: What's the level about?

A: I'm not at liberty to say.

Q: Will I need ATX for this?

A: Yes, it employs several ATX functions and action-types.

Q: Why all the secrecy?

A: If I told you anything about the level directly, it would ruin the surprise ;)

Q: Does this level take place on Nublar?

A: That's where the East Dock is, isn't it? :)

Q: Will JPDS ever get done?

A: I'm not at liberty to say nor do I know,

Q: What is your impression with the level?

A: Personally I find it a fun, but challenging, level. I believe you will enjoy it too.

Q: When I get the level, can I use your Jurassic Park Oblivion models for my level?

A: Sure! Just so long as you don't claim them directly as your own (You don't need to credit me in your level's read me either). I plan to eventually release the models through TresCom's new download system when it is finished.

Q: What's left to work on in the level?

A: Draco needs to fix some scripting and import a couple new models and it *should* be ready to package up and ship out, possibly late tonight or sometime tomorrow (CST).

Now for some straight facts:

This was Draco's idea though I'm the one that wanted to do something with the area first, he came up with what we should do in the level. I originally wanted to make a short Jurassic Park Oblivion demo but since JPO is so far away, we decided it best to hold off on any "demo" if one comes to be.

The East Dock itself is based off of a drawing of an actual small supply dock. The design works so well that it just seems to fit in with the rest of the level.

The roads are all based off of the JP Legacy map of the general area and as such are possibly very accurate.

We make use of Big Razzie's JP Logo font as well as a heavily edited version to be used for the red overlay text (so that Draco wouldn't have to paint them by hand anymore. He did that with the East Dock sign and said he didn't want to do that again.)

This level will be the first Nublar based Trespasser level released and will include at least one film location and several movie accurate models.

Finaly, 3 months and five (or six?) days later!!!!!
I thought for sure it would come out at Christmas.
Interesting facts! 8)
As always... Can't wait to play it.

I have a simple question:
You sayed it was a stand alone from Jurassic Park Oblivion, but will it be a stand alone from the retail game? (AKA will it use the demo engine?)

It's standalone from Jurassic Park Oblivion but you need Trespasser installed through hard drive installation. The level is designed to be plugged into an ATX patched copy of the retail Trespasser and uses retail TPA files as well as custom TPAs. But don't worry, we will be including a list of places where the necessary files will need to go.

I hope that answers your question :)

Will you release a walkthrough of the level for those who just want to see it all?

It's not a big level, lol, there are two main areas in the level. I think I may type something up to give tips on how to pass from one area to another.

An update:

The last model that needed to be finished is. There is some texture work and physics is all that remains. Then remove some dev scripting (Things like *Spit flies* hehe).

Then Draco has to write up the readme then package it all up and then upload it someplace.

Should be just another hour or two :P That is unless Draco decides to call it a night early v.v

...not unless he wants to be eaten alive by a clan of ravaged man-eating tiki dolls...

Well, it's taking a little while longer than we thought.

We have two things that need finished. One just needs physics and the other needs texture work. Other than that the level is practically done.

Thing is we are too tired to stay up long enough to finish those two so we're going to call it a night. ED will be released tomorrow then. Maybe even before I wake up! (unlikely, hehe).
