Bet you were wondering just what you got onto the island with :P

This is the Autumn Winds, a fishing vessel owned by your character's friend that he is using in this expedition. He will remain offshore out of the quarantine zone to avoid suspicion throughout most of JPO. Textures aren't finished yet, of course :P

Here's some pictures of the boat this is based on (Perfect Storm fans will recognize it :P)

I have quite a few reference pictures of this particular boat :P Looks somewhat different than the Lady Grace (the boat used in the movie to represent the real Andrea Gail seen in the above pics) but it's similar enough I'd say :D

The Perfect Storm was my favorite movie in 2000 and 2001. Don't know why I haven't seen it since then... When I started thinking about the boat that your character comes in on that movie popped into my mind and I just had to make the real boat 8)

EDIT: Finished the textures, looks a bit more like a boat that's been used now (It even has some doors!):

Image
Here you can see two of the ship's three watertight doors (The third one is inside the ship which is not modeled)
Image
Shot of the front of the ship and it's awesome lines (I love the look of the Andrea Gail 8) )

Closeup showing the pilot house

Also here's the stats of the Autumn Winds:

F/V Autumn Winds
ON: 851029
Home port: San Diego, California
Port of Registry: San Diego, California
Captain: Richard "Ricky" King
Owner: Richard "Ricky" King
Builder: Eastern Marina Inc., Panama City, Florida
Completed: 1988
Type: Fishing Vessel (F/V)
Tonnage: 93 tons
Length: 72 feet
Width: 20 feet
Speed: 15 knots
Sister Ships: No official sister ships but built from the same plans as the Andrea Gail, Lady Grace, and Hannah Boden with Andrea Gail's changes implemented.

EDIT 2: I made a set of Andrea Gail textures too (correct name and ON number 592898 - the movie has this number as 582898)

EDIT 3: I finished up the boat and imported it into the game! It is at proper scale (It's quite a distance away from shore, of course :P)

I guess you'll have scuba gear lying on the beach behind you as you start...

Great model Sam. 8) Can't say I'm too happy with the "textures", though..

It looks nice but I do have to agree with Draco about the green, its too bright. xD

Well I can't have it look exactly like the real ship, because the real ship has specular highlights and Tres can't do jack when it comes to specular highlights :P Some angles the ship is bright green and some it's dark green.

And Drac, you never like the textures  I need to get this done sometime and besides it IS a demo and not a final product anyway so if I want to I'll make the textures better later :P

I can't believe I didn't see this one sooner...

These little trawlers come with a 6 person rubber life raft, no need to go scuba diving to get to the island :P I just haven't made the life raft yet.

Yeah, but the Coast Guard might see the inflatable raft...

And the character is just going to leave the raft on the shore in the open? :P

There won't be an opening cutscene in the demo but one IS planned for the final that will show the raft being drug over and covered up with leaves and the like :P (It will also have a higher poly version of this boat)

And she will have time to do that because the Coast Guard has more important things to do than to monitor an abandoned island that most people don't even know about (unless they read the tabloids of course). Even with the stepped up patrols in JP3 at Sorna people were still able to break quarantine there without the Coast Guard even doing anything. They let a PLANE onto Sorna in that movie and didn't move to stop them or call in backup... and that's after everyone in the whole world knows that Jurassic Park is real and that Isla Sorna is an island with dinosaurs on it. And all they had was a single plane that flew overhead, not even a ship on patrol.

I guess the point is that those in charge of keeping people off these islands just plain fail at their job.

Actually that's a good point.. In JP3, if people really believe dinosaurs are on the island, I bet there will be thrill-seekers trying to break the quaranteen all the frakin time. Either it's a bit of a weak plot point, or we go by Trespasser's rationale: only a few people actually believed the dinosaur story even after what happened in San Diego.

No, but they can see you paddling all the way from the boat to the shore...
There won't be an opening cutscene in the demo but one IS planned for the final that will show the raft being drug over and covered up with leaves and the like :P
And then while you're struggling to open the sealed envelope containing your orders, two KAOS guards come out of the jungle and shoot you...
(It will also have a higher poly version of this boat)

And she will have time to do that because the Coast Guard has more important things to do than to monitor an abandoned island that most people don't even know about (unless they read the tabloids of course).
Hmmm, I just remembered something...

This is supposed to be happening between JP and TLW, right? Before anyone heard of Site B?
Even with the stepped up patrols in JP3 at Sorna people were still able to break quarantine there without the Coast Guard even doing anything. Remember that guy who flew his airplane over Eastern Europe all the way to the Red Square in Moscow undetected?
I guess the point is that those in charge of keeping people off these islands just plain fail at their job.
Or they have a "let's just leave the dinos to handle them" attitude...

The only thing I think the boat textures need are some wear and tear elements to make them fit better and look more realistic. Some pitting, maybe some slight rust...some barnacles? I dunno whatever real ships have.
